At Heritage Lane we use hand tools and traditional techniques whenever possible. |
We here at Heritage Lane Antiques have been buying and refinishing antique furniture for many years, and have become well known throughout Ontario and parts of the U.S.A. for the excellence of our work. From the smallest pieces to the largest dining or bedroom sets, each restoration project receives the same careful attention. We take pride in our work and ability to select and apply stains which match the original finish as closely as possible. We offer our clients the option of selecting a custom finish for their piece. This allows the resulting work to suit their taste in construction style, as well as finish.
As part of our wood refinishing process we also carefully remove, clean and polish each item's hardware. We catalogue and store the hardware until the piece is ready for reassembly. In addition, all glass is removed.
The woods of each piece are chemically stripped--not "dipped", therefore no harmful treatments are used. Loose chairs are taken apart and all old glue is removed. Broken parts are repaired or replaced by our own carpenter as needed. When reassembling pieces, we glue and clamp the item securely and properly to ensure years of structural stability on parallel with a newly built piece of furniture.

Our shop includes a large spray booth that allows us to apply the finish evenly and smoothly while hand sanding between coats. |
Each item's upholstery is removed and new, high quality foam is custom cut and installed. Our customers can chose the upholstery if they like, if not we select the upholstery based upon its quality and historical accuracy. The new upholstery is scotch guarded to protect it against stain damage as well as wear and tear.
We use stains that are of the best consistency and quality. The finishes we apply are renowned throughout the industry for their flawlessness and similarity to the original. The techniques we use to create these finishes have been developed over years of experience, and are a carefully held secret.
Each step in the process of refinishing our furniture is designed to create beautiful, durable, historically accurate works that fit each customer's needs. We hope that the resulting pieces are as beautiful as they were when they were originally manufactured, and will continue to be beautiful as they are used in your home by you and your family.
